Where horses are given a second chance
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet the needs of our rescued horses. Hay prices are soaring and we could use your help.
Bodega Meadows Horse Sanctuary is a small nonprofit 501(c)(3) (federal tax i.d. #85-1432128) located in Sebastopol, California. We are dedicated to saving horses from slaughter. We provide love, care, safety, rehabilitation, adoption and a forever home.
Although horse slaughter facilities have closed down in the U.S., horses are still being exported to other countries for slaughter. Every year, anywhere from 80,000 to 137,000 American horses are hauled over the U.S. border to be slaughter for human consumption. They are shipped in overcrowded trailers without food or water, for over 24
Although horse slaughter facilities have closed down in the U.S., horses are still being exported to other countries for slaughter. Every year, anywhere from 80,000 to 137,000 American horses are hauled over the U.S. border to be slaughter for human consumption. They are shipped in overcrowded trailers without food or water, for over 24 hours at a time. Most often, their death is tragic and inhumane.
While we cannot save all horses from slaughter, we can have a significant impact on the future of American horses. Our goal is to rescue as many as we can care for and provide sanctuary. We strive to bring awareness to the public through education, so that the bil before congress, Amerirican Food Exports (SAFE) Act (H.R.961), is passed and horse slaughter and the export abroad for that purpose is made illegal.
